Who Are We Looking For?

What kind of person are we in search of? The Bible gives us the answer.

We can share Jesus with people we know as well as with people we don't yet know. Regarding people we haven't met yet, what kind of people are seeking?

In Luke 10, Jesus sends his disciples out to where he will be going and he emphasizes that he should find and stay with people who will receive them.

And whatever house you enter, first say, ‘Peace be to this house.’  And if a man of peace is there, your peace will rest upon him; but if not, it will return to you. Stay in that house, eating and drinking what they provide; for the laborer is deserving of his wages. Do not move from house to house.

Luke 10:5-7 (NIV)

In both the gospels and Acts we see examples of people who receive Jesus and/or his disciples - even if after some heated conversation. Some examples would include:

  • the Samaritan woman at the well (John 4:7-30)

  • Zaccheus (Luke 19:1-10)

  • the Ethiopian eunuch (Acts 8:25-40)

  • Cornelius (Acts 10)

  • Lydia (Acts 16:14,15)

  • the Philippian jailor (Acts 16:22-34)

There are people God is working in. Let us go out and find them. These are the people who will multiply (Mark 4:8).
